Montag
Got up for work (could have a lie in because I was stopping in the hotel a 2 minute walk from my school, but still being in work at 8 am will never be easy), was asked to prepare a class for the 13.11 on the Irish famine, which I did, then the next class I had to take a small group out and help them formulate questions with the simple present tense (does/do/doesn't/don't). When work was over, I met my mom and her boyfriend again, and we went to get brunch at a local bakery that isn't anything special at all but I absolutely adore it. Afterwards, we went to Karstadt where I picked up some Christmas presents to take back home with her. Then we drove to my flat. While my mom's boyfriend messed around trying to get channels on the TV (turns out there's no aerial with it), my mom and I went food shopping. We put everything away and chatted for a bit, but then they had to leave for the airport. We said our goodbyes, and I had a well deserved nap. I then made a lovely stew for my tea, and some was left over so now its in the freezer.

Dienstag
Woke up for work, got the bus (which now only takes 10 minutes, or I can do a 20 minute walk - but it's freezing here, like the seasons have skipped autumn totally and it feels like we're in the depths of winter). One class was doing intercultural competence, wherein they discussed their own cultures and compared it to other cultures, there was a bit of tension when one student said they thought that some East Germans felt culturally left behind, and an East German pupil disagreed, but interesting nonetheless. In the second lesson, students had to plan a 3-4 minute speech about why they would or would not leave Germany, so I had to go around and help them. This was the day where my cold began, so just assume after everyday this week I came home and lay under the blanket. For tea I had grilled sardines, homemade wedges, roasted carrots and peas.

Mittwoch
Got the bus to work, had to present my lesson on Bonfire Night, which all the students seemed to engage with, although they found the celebration itself rather morbid, which it is. I showed them some pictures of bonfire celebrations, then showed them a video of the story of Guy Fawkes and had them order some sheets of paper to match the story. After that, they heard audio clips of my mom and her boyfriend describing what they did on bonfire night as children, and they had to tell me what was said. To finish, I explained how we celebrate bonfire night, showed them a video of a bonfire in Nottingham, and they wrote their own acrostic poems, which they then read out to the class. In my next class, they had to do some listening tasks about being at the doctors, then they had to think of an illness and the others had to guess what it was, then they had to do some role playing of being in the doctors and answering questions on it. I came home, burritoed myself, and made pasta for tea.

Donnerstag
Well, I went to work, and my lesson was cancelled when I got there, which was a lil annoying but at least I'm no longer living an hour away, because I wouldn't have come back otherwise. My mentor and I had a catch up anyway, and she sent out another copy of my bank details. Basically, my payment has been messed up, because the school are supposed to send off the bank details, but they told me to do it myself. I didn't have a clue who to send it to, asked one of the previous assistants, who gave me an address in Bonn, so I thought ok fine I'll send it off. Well, then the school keeps getting e-mails saying I haven't sent any info off, I was like well that's wrong because I have. So I e-mailed the woman in charge, who said that I was supposed to send it to Kiel, so gave me another e-mail address to speak to, then that lady told me to fill out the form and send it via e-mail, so I did, but then my mentor wanted to send a hard copy again too, just so they definitely definitely have my details. Totally annoying and another inconvenience I won't forget (looking at you British Council). Came home, had lunch, had chicken wrap for tea.

Freitag
My day off, but got up, changed my pin on my bank card (should I ever get the chance to use it), changed my address at the bank, bought some jumpers, bought a soft, warm dressing gown, bought the world's boldest umbrella that somehow cost more than the dressing gown (but its heavy duty- it is very windy and rainy here at times, and my charity shop umbrella fell apart in the first week or so of being here). Then I came home, had a bath, cooked a pizza, and got ready to go out and watch the football. Luckily, it was a draw, so we didn't get any trouble.

Samstag
Had a nice long lie in in my own new flat, waffles and grapes for breakfast, then popped to town to get a loofah, some hair dye, shampoo, coffee (for Joe's arrival on Thursday), salami, cheese, wraps and crisps. The essentials. Then I went back home and had yet another bath (I have been so clean this weekend). Got all wrapped up, then ordered a Domino's. The wedges aren't as nice here as they are in the UK, which was disappointing to say the least.

Sonntag
Super long lie in again, cleaned the flat, hoovered, mopped, got out the cillit bang, cooked a lovely meal of sardines, roasted peppers, roasted tomato, roasted carrots, roasted onions and potato wedges and peas. Also had my left over Ben and Jerry's that I'd ordered from Domino's the night prior. Winner winner sardine dinner. Then I had a bath, wrapped up, watched the Lion King and chilled.

Enjoy the rest of your week! Next time you hear from me I will be in Berlin with the love of my life.
