Woche 27
Hellooooooooo y'all.
Words this week:
Montag
In my first lesson they started a new topic "New York". We got to listen to some Frank Sinatra and then the students had to fill in a sheet, identifying the boroughs of NY. Next, I had to sit with students 2 or 3 at a time and listen their interpretations of a cartoon about the Sandy Hook shooting. When I got home I sent some emails around about my dissertation, as I was unsure whether to do it as part of the German or English side of my degree (I've opted for English now), as my topic is "Denglish/Denglisch" (depending on who you ask).
Dienstag
Firstly, I wasn't needed. I'd come to work all early, bright eyed and bushy tailed, but I wasn't needed, so I did some Nachhilfe prep and printed out some Denglish adverts I'd seen, so I could spider diagram my ideas a bit better. Afterwards, I went to my lesson. In the lesson I had to go through and check everybody's work (while the teacher was colouring in with the pupils who had finished). I was very busy. Then, we sorted out this week's lesson. We decided to let the students choose a city to make a presentation about. They have to speak about it for 3 minutes and get time this week to prep for it.
Mittwoch
My "early" day. 6:30 doesn't look pretty. In the first lesson, the students had to do a presentation in English about something that was important to them. One chose MMA fighting and the other chose Freestyle Ice Skating. Then, we split the group into two again and, with the stronger ones, I looked at an article from The Independent about budget cuts to OAP care and discussed it. Then I had a break where I did more prep for my Nachhilfe. After that I had to cover a lesson and well... let's just say you can tell its coming to the end of the term.
Donnerstag
In my first lesson the students presented the scenarios that they had last week, then they played taboo. Man, I've never seen anyone play taboo like the Germans. I don't wanna play with them- they're so damn competitive. It's intimidating. Then I had a two hour break in which I did more prep, dissertation work and had my lunch. A Spanish colleague asked me to bring a cream back over from England that she'd read in a Spanish newspaper helped eczema (Child's Farm Baby Moisturiser, sold in Tesco, if you're interested). In my last lesson the students were answering questions about a text that dealt with the American Dream and how it has evolved over the years. After work I popped to the bookshop to see if they had a book about Denglish that I wanted, but it was futile. I did, however, successfully manage to leave the shop without buying any books. You don't understand how difficult that is for somebody like me. I then walked to the library to give my Nachhilfe. When I got home I sent off my dissertation proposal (spelt my name wrong like an IDIOT) and had to fill out like a million ethics forms in preparation for my questionnaire.
Freitag
In the morning I walked up to the shop (the supermarket across the road is still closed- COME BACK TOP KAUF I MISS YOU SO MUCH). I did my weekly shop that only came to 20 euro. All I bought was vegetables- I'm boring and healthy these days. BUT NOT A FOOL SO I GOT 60 CENT OFF THE GREEN PRINGLES (rhey were on offer so it would've been rude to just not buy them). After that I had my sandwich and then (reluctantly) did my cleaning. When I was finished, I was picked up to give Nachhilfe again. When I came home I lay down, phoned my family, and ordered my fave takeaway.
Samstag
I braved the walk into town to buy some hair dye, eyeliner and toothpaste. Then I had a cheeky look in H+M and I found a Jurassic Park t shirt for 10 euro so that was straight in my basket obviously. When I got home, I did some yoga and had wedg(i)es, chicken nuggets and a pizza baguette for dinner.
Sonntag
I haven't done much today, but I've had a busy week. I just did my washing up, bought my washing upstairs, made a chilli, sorted out my dissertation questionnaire and now I'm watching Big Hero 6 auf Deutsch.
Have a good week! I finish work for 2 weeks on Thursday, then I fly home on Sunday. Cannot waitttt.
