Montag
In the first lesson they had a booklet of activities to fill in about Unit 5 (the USA). They had to figure out where to use the present perfect (have never seen, have just heard etc) and the simple past, as well as recount vocabulary for car parts. In the second lesson they were discussing school uniforms and dress codes and their pros and cons. When I explained about my school uniform (a brown blazer, brown and gold striped tie, brown or black skirt/trousers, no make up, no hair dye, no piercings etc) they stared at me like I'd just stepped out of an Orwellian dystopian novel. Didn't realise my uniform was that bad until I had to explain it aloud to people who had never had to deal with a dress code at school, let alone a uniform.
Dienstag
In the morning I gave my lesson on Birmingham for the first part, which went well. For the second part of the lesson, they had to do some exercises for a text about working in a care home. I didn't have my next lesson because they were doing a test, but the lesson after that they were working on their presentations to present that day, but the projector wasn't working so they couldn't (annoying- they'd been working for weeks on it and I was excited to see what they'd come up with).
Mittwoch
Only had the one 45 minute lesson. In the lesson they discussed a text about how to use your smartphone in a crisis, particularly in regards to mental health. There is an app in the UK that connects you to your local mental health crisis team, who can help you when you are feeling low.
Donnerstag
In the lesson they analysed a short story- Kate Chopin's "Dream of an Hour"/"Story of an Hour". I had never read it before but thoroughly enjoyed it. They had to write a summary of the text and for homework find the stylistic devices in it.
Freitag
I just did my food shopping and furniture shopping. My fiance picked up the keys for our house so I can finally look at furniture and paint for realsies.
Samstag
More online shopping. Found a sofa we liked, and ordered swatches of it so we can figure out which colour fits best.
Sonntag
Did my cleaning, more online browsing, had a bath and did my nails.
